We invite all who have successfully completed the National Home Inspectors Exam (NHIE) to apply to our Home Inspector Apprentice program.
The AJF Apprentice Program is the best way to become a licensed home inspector in Arizona.
That’s because AJF offers more than a job. Here you can grow and make a meaningful impact in the home inspection industry. Here are a few reasons inspectors choose our apprentice program.
Instead of paying for your BTR required parallel inspections, you will earn training pay while you complete them!
All our inspectors are employees, not contractors. You’ll get a real paycheck along with health, vision, and dental insurance.
Get hired full-time as an apprentice and compete your 30 AZ BTR compliant parallels with our award-winning team.
AJF has trained and hired more than 100 home inspectors in Arizona.
Our apprentices work with award-winning inspectors who provide guidance each step of the way.
“When I joined AJF, I was new to the inspection field, but the training and mentorship I received completely changed the direction of my career. To become a home inspector in Arizona, you must take classroom training, complete 30 parallel inspections under a licensed professional, and submit your application to the AZ BTR. Here’s the step-by-step process:
Step 1: Complete 84 hours of classroom training
Classroom training must be from an approved training provider such as American Home Inspectors Training or the Arizona School of Real Estate and Business.
Step 2: Pass the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE)
NHIE is a 200-question, multiple-choice exam. A passing score is 500 out of 800. You can find study guides at NHIE and InterNACHI.
Step 3: Apply to the AJF Apprentice Program here.
Step 4: Complete your apprentice education and training with AJF.
The AJF Apprentice Program was designed by AJF’s founder, a professional engineer, and operated by Certified Master Inspectors with decades of experience. We cover everything you need to become a professional home inspector and then some. That includes:
Most importantly, you’ll complete the 30 parallel inspections under the supervision of AJF’s highly-experienced, licensed home inspectors.
Not AJF. We pay you $80 for every parallel you complete.
Step 5: Submit your home inspector application
Once you meet Arizona’s state-specific requirements, submit a completed application and all required documents to the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration. Don’t worry. We will guide through this entire process. We’ll even pay your application and licensing fees.
Here’s a document checklist to ensure your registration goes smoothly.
Step 6: Whoo! You did it! It’s time to start your home inspection career.
While the classroom training can be done online, the 30 parallel inspections must be completed in-person in Arizona under supervision. Hands-on fieldwork is essential to understand the nuances of Arizona homes and the inspection process.
At AJF, we know becoming a home inspector can be expensive. Many people pay $3,000 to $5,000 out-of-pocket for their parallels, study materials, and fees, while not earning income from training.
We believe that starting a new career should be exciting. Not scary and expensive.
Instead of having you paying thousands to train, AJF puts money in your pocket en route to a full time job. For those who enter the AJF Apprentice Program, we will cover your:
Full cost of 30 AZ BTR-compliant parallels: $2,500–$3,000
Insurance while training: $1,000 annually
AZ BTR license application fee: $175
That’s not all. You will also earn $600–$1,000 per week during parallels. No unpaid field work. No training or shadowing fees. Just a clear path to full-time job placement.
AJF prides itself on industry-leading compensation with some inspectors making six figure incomes. According to Indeed, the average Arizona home inspector makes $70,000. The average AJF inspector makes more than that!
That’s not all. AJF inspectors are W-2 employees. Our inspectors receive guaranteed access to health, dental, vision, and life insurance. You will also get a 401K match, paid time off, a gas stipend, additional training opportunities, and a host of other benefits.
Those benefits are rare because most other home inspection companies do not offer benefits.
